Every year, we witness four eclipses, two Solar and two Lunar. After the Solar eclipse of April and the Lunar eclipse of May, it’s time to witness the Annular Solar Eclipse on 14 October 2023. It will be followed by a Lunar Eclipse on 28 October.
What makes this Solar eclipse special is its ‘Ring of Fire’ appearance, which delights Astronomers and space enthusiasts. A solar eclipse happens when the Moon comes between the Sun and the Earth in a straight line. The Moon is at the farthest point from the Earth, and this is why it appears small enough not to cover the Sun completely. Hence, a special and extraordinary ring is formed.

The Rings of this Annular solar eclipse of 2023 will be witnessed only in the Americas, which includes places like the United States, Southern America, Central America, Brazil, Mexico, Panama, Texas, California, etc.
Visibility in India and Nepal
Unfortunately, the eclipse won’t be visible for the people in India, Nepal, and the entire Asia. But there’s always a solution to a problem. You can always watch the live stream of the Eclipse in the comfort of your house without concern about safety.
Sutak Kaal
Since we won’t be able to witness this historic celestial event in India and Nepal, the Sutak Kaal will not be applicable.

Safety during Eclipse
It is never safe to see the Sun with the naked eye, and even though it’s an Annual solar eclipse, the Sun is still not completely covered. Hence, it is advisable not to see the Sun during Eclipse. Here are some safety measures that we can follow during an eclipse to stay safe;
- All sorts of activities, including eating, are assumed to be avoided during eclipses.
- Avoid using binoculars, telescopes and other optical instruments to gaze at the eclipse. It can cause serious injuries.
- Ensure the use of proper solar filters and check for damages before using them.
- Wear sunglasses and skin protection creams to avoid sunburns.
- Special eclipse glasses, welder’s goggles or a Pinhole projector can be the ideal solution to your eclipse craze.
