Father’s Day in Nepal is celebrated uniquely, with a distinct date falling in the month of Bhadra (August-September). Not only the date but also the name sets it apart, known as “Buwa ko mukh herne din” (बुबाको मुख हेर्ने दिन). On this special day, people show their fathers special gestures and affection through gifts, preparing their favourite dishes, and cherishing their presence with heartfelt joy.
In Nepal, Fathers are treated as Gods just like Mothers and Teachers. Hence, it becomes obligatory to commemorate the day with great joy and delight the God in your homes. Fathers are also considered Teachers/gurus, protectors/Rakhsak, Saviour/Palan Karta, and superheroes. Babu ko Mukh Herne din can only be a small payback for what a father does for his children.

Date for Fathers Day in Nepal
This year the date for Buwa ko Mukh herne din is 28 Bhadra 2080 or 14 September 2023. The day also marks Kushe Aaunshi or Gokarna Aunsi, which is the other name for Nepali Father’s Day.
The day also witnesses Shraddha in remembrance of the deceased ones. People visit temples and married women make their way to maternal homes with a smile and gifts for their fathers.
