Janai Purnima is a Nepalese festival observed on the Full Moon night of Shrawan. It comes along with Kwati khaane din and Raksha Bandhan. The sense of Janai Purnima is Hindu men replacing their old Janai(sacred thread) as a symbol of rejuvenation. Happy Janai Purnima 2080

Janai is a cotton strand wrapped across the chest by Hindu males that symbolizes the transformation of a boy into adulthood and devotedly follows religion and the path of truthfulness.

This year, Janai Purnima is on the 14th Bhadra 2080 (31st August), along with Raksha Bandhan and Sanskrit Diwas.
Significance and Observations
- The shaman culture of Kathmandu and other areas celebrate and perform rituals at sacred places like Kumbeshwar, Gosaikunda, and Charikot.
- The Brahmins(Taghadharis) bathe in the holy rivers and perform rites to change their Janai.
- The priests also tie a yellow thread on the wrist to symbolize faith.
- Newars celebrate Gunhi Punhi or Kwati khaane din. Kwati is the soup of presoaked and sprouted beans.
- Devotees from all across the nation worship Shiva Lingam of Kumbheswar, Patan.
