Govardhan Puja 2022

Govardhan Puja 2023 | Mha Puja

Govardhan Puja(गोवर्धन पूजा) is the depiction of Lord Krishna defeating Indra Dev and his egoistic attitude. The tale is amongst one of the most interesting acts of Shri Krishna. He lifts Govardhan Parbat on his little finger to protect his fellow villagers from the rains due to the vengeance of Indra Dev.

It is also known as Annakut Pooja(अन्नकूट पूजा) as varieties of Indian cuisine(Chappan Bhog) are offered to Lord Krishna along with prayers.

The day witnesses Govardhan Parbat made out of Cow Dung(Govar) for worship. Gobardhan Puja falls on the day next to Deepawali and prior to Bhai Dooj in India and Bhai Tika in Nepal.

Govardhan Puja 2023 Date

The Govardhan Puja 2023 will be observed on 14th November as per the Hindu calendar. Gobardhan Puja will be celebrated in Nepal on 28th Kartik 2080. It is celebrated on the day after Diwali. It usually falls on Shukla paksha of pratipada tithi.

The auspicious date on the calendar also holds occurrences like Mha Puja by the Newar community and Gai Goru Puja across Nepal. It also holds place for Gujarati New Year 2080(गुजराती विक्रम सम्वत 2080) along with Bali Padva or Pratipada in Maharastra, India.

Govardhan Puja Pratahkala Muhurat is 6:24 AM – 8:33 AM.

Mha Puja(म्ह पूजा) 2080

The Newar community of Nepal celebrates Mha Puja on the occasion of Govardhan Pooja after Diwali. As the name suggests, Mha pooja is all about worshipping oneself and the soul within. Besides praising one’s body, the day also offers a refinement of the body, mind, and soul for awareness of the evils of the world.

Buddhist Newars find the day perfect to adopt the right path set by Buddha for a better life. Mha puja helps realize the self-worth of an individual.

Gai Goru Puja 2080

After Kag Tihar and Kukur Tihar, it’s time for worshipping Cows(Gai) and Oxen(Goru) in Nepal. The cow is sacred and treated like the mother in Hindu culture. Hence, people in Nepal celebrate Gai Tihar by worshipping cows and offering them different foods.

Likewise, Oxen is also worshipped in the Hindu community as it has an immensely important role in Agriculture across Nepal.
