Ghatasthapana means the ritual of installation of Kalash for invocation of Goddess Durga. It is the first day of the 10-day celebration of Dashain. Let’s have a look at Ghatasthapana 2081 dates and wishes for sharing with family and friends.
As the name suggests, Ghatasthapana means placing a Kalash filled with holy water for worship. Jamara, or the holy grass, has special importance in the Nepalese-style celebration of the day. These Jamara(दूबो) are grown with seven different seeds(Sapta Dhanya) from the Ghatasthapana for Dashain Day.

Navratri Ghatasthapana(घटस्थापना)
Navratri(Shardiya Navratri) on Pratipada commences with Kalash Sthapana or Ghat-sthapana. Navratri means those 9-day celebrations where devotees worship nine avatars of the goddess Durga.
The Kalash is then kept for nine days and thawed in the nearby rivers. It is worshipped with dhoop and sweets as a place for Goddess Durga to reside for the next ten days. The puja concludes with Mantras and blessings from the elders.
Cleaning the houses and decorations with rangoli, delicacies, etc, is also observance before Navratra(नवरात्रि).
Ghatasthapana 2024 Date
The date for Ghatasthapana in Nepal is 17th Ashoj 2081. In India, the date of Ghatasthapan is 3 October 2024.
The date also marks the celebration of Sindhara Dooj, which is popular in Northern India. In this festival, women are cherished and blessed with gifts.
