Maha Navami or Durga Nawami is the 9th-day celebration of Navratri, worshipping the Mahisasuramardini avatar of Goddess Durga. Devotees believe that she killed the Buffalo demon, Mahishasura on this occasion.
After Ghatasthapana, Ashtami and Fulpati, it’s time for Nawami, followed by Biajay Dashmi and Dashain. Fasting, Mahasnan and Kanya Puja are observable on Navami in different parts of India and Nepal. Nawami has a distinct significance in the Hindu culture and you can witness it with its grandeur and celebrations.
It is assumed that Demon Mahishasur was killed on this day and hence is the name Mahishasurmardini.

Maha Nawami falls on 23rd October 2023 in India and Nepal shall celebrate it simultaneously on 6th Karthik 2080.
The timings for Navami Tithi Mahurat are 8:13 PM(22nd October) to 5:59 PM (23rd October).
