Maha Navami or Durga Nawami is the 9th-day celebration of Navratri, worshipping the Mahisasuramardini avatar of Goddess Durga. Devotees believe that she killed the Buffalo demon, Mahishasura, on this occasion.
After Ghatasthapana, Ashtami, and Fulpati, it’s time for Nawami, followed by Biajay Dashmi and Dashain. Fasting, Mahasnan, and Kanya Puja are common observances on Navami in different parts of India and Nepal. Nawami has a distinct significance in Hindu culture, and you can witness it with its grandeur and celebrations.
It is assumed that Demon Mahishasur was killed on this day, hence the name Mahishasurmardini.
