Durga Ashtami 2023 is the 8th day of the Navratri celebration. After Ghatasthapana and Fulpati, It’s time for Astami(महाअष्टमी), followed by Nawami, Durga Puja and Dashain.
Mahasnan, Shodashopachar Puja (षोडशोपचार पूजा) and worshipping young girls as Kumari Puja(Kanya Puja) are some of the rituals on Ashtami.

Astami Date and Time
Ashtami of Navratri or Dashain falls this year on Monday, the 22nd of October. That is the 5th Karthik 2080 in the Bikram Samwat(B.S.) calendar in Nepal.
The auspicious timing(Mahurat) for Ashtami Tithi in India is from 10:08 PM(21st October) to 8:13 PM (22nd October).
Significance of Durga Ashtami
Kanya Puja is an integral part of Navratri and specifically Ashtami. It is also observable on Navami. 9 young girls, who hasnt reached puberty are welcomed and worshipped as 9 avatars of Goddess Durga. They are then offered Kheer and Puri as Prasad and some gifts before departing.
On Maha Ashtami, the eighth day of Navratri, devotees worship Mahagauri.
