Significance of Durga Ashtami
Kanya Puja is an integral part of Navratri and specifically Ashtami. It is also observable on Navami. 9 young girls, who hasnt reached puberty are welcomed and worshipped as 9 avatars of Goddess Durga. They are then offered Kheer and Puri as Prasad and some gifts before departing.
On Maha Ashtami, the eighth day of Navratri, devotees worship Mahagauri.
