Constitution Day is celebrated on the 3rd of Ashoj each year in Nepal. In the Gregorian/Western calendars, it is 19 September 2024.
Banks and offices mark the day as a public holiday with closures.
History and Significance
Constitution Day is also known as National Day or Sambidhan Divas. The day celebrates the replacement of the Interim Constitution 2007 by the present Constitution. On 3rd Ashwin 2072, the present full-fledged ‘Constitution on Nepal 2072’ came into existence, drafting the fundamental legislative principles, procedures, human rights, stipulations, and liabilities of the government and its inhabitants.
The day witnessed the Nepal Army Parade and multiple other programs held across the nation. The leaders addressed the nation and its citizens with blessings and best wishes. At an individual level, you can light up a candle, as many others do, and brighten their streets with joy. Nepalese embassies around the world host the Nepalese flag and organize programs with the natives and Nepalese abroad.
